As a stray puppy, nothing is more frightening than being tied up in chains, with rain continuously trickling over your head instead of a roof, not knowing if you will live out your days, trapped in a harsh environment without a warm blanket to cover your body, and regular supply of food.
But luckily, Mike Thawley, a firefighter from Fire Station 14 at Sacramento, California, happened to chance upon a sick, little puppy whom he named Chunkie, tied and stuck in the middle of the rain. Immediately after seeing her poor condition, he saved the puppy, cleaned her up, and took her to the Front Street, an animal shelter which provides care and medical attention to those in need.
A day after, Firefighter Thawley visited the dog he rescued, and Chunkie instantly recognized her knight in shining armor, immediately wagged her tail, and started sniffing his hands, even jumping just to lick his new friend’s face. When he picked up the dog, the caretaker put a pink sweater on Chunkie helping her recover from a dog rash, and the pup began licking his face in sheer love and gratitude to his new friend. Because she is happy with her newly found friend, she started following him around during his stay in the shelter.
And not only that, Firefighter Thawley wants to be able to do more for Chunkie. With the approval of Carla, his wife, and their three daughters, they all agreed on fostering Chunkie while she is undergoing treatment needed to cure her mange and adopt her permanently as soon as she recovers.
Happily sharing how he and the members of his family how in love they are with Chunkie, Firefighter Thawley knew that the second they started fostering the dog, they felt that she was meant to be a part of their family.
