Research has shown and proven that owning a pet lessens your chances of having anxiety, depression, and lowers your blood pressure, stress levels, and boosts your immunity. However, despite all these fantastic benefits of having a pet, many cats and dogs are living their lives in animal shelters, confused, lonely, and lost.

Yearly, there are about 6.5 million animals are being dumped to shelters in the whole nation with over 3.3 million dogs, hoping to have a once in a lifetime chance to be taken in into a loving, permanent home.

But because there are shelters that can no longer accommodate dogs due to limited space, budget, and food, canines who have been a long resident of these shelters and have various illnesses are being euthanized – with over 600,000 pups being killed every year.

Many shelters are doing their best and hardest efforts to promote adoption instead of purchasing from animal stores, pet breeders with some, not even registered to breed any animals and puppy mills who have deplorable living conditions for animals.

One dog from Carson Animal Care Center in Gardenia, California, is Benny – a handsome male Pit Bull, rescued from being euthanized. Not having any inkling that he was already on a kill list, Benny tried his hardest to be noticed by potential adopters, greeting them one by one, in hopes that someone is finally going to see him and bring him to his new home.

Days turned weeks, which then turned months, nobody took notice of this adorable dog. But the odds were in Benny’s favor because finally, someone adopted him, saving him from being unnecessarily killed.

When Benny’s caretakers entered his cage, he happily wagged his cute long tail, marching up and down, not showing any hint of aggression or anxiety despite being filled with excitement and curiosity. And as soon as his leash was dangled right on his face, the dog knew that he is finally getting adopted.

Proudly wearing his leash, the newly free dog excitedly ran everywhere, leaping high as his legs could.
