Boston Terrier Tries to Dig Out His Favorite Tennis Ball Frozen to the Ground

When the First Snow of the Season Freezes Your Dog’s Favorite Toy

Every dog owner knows the look: that one toy your dog is completely, irrationally obsessed with. You buy newer, shinier replacements — and they ignore every single one. For Manson, a 10-year-old Boston Terrier from Saskatoon, Canada, that prized possession is a well-worn tennis ball.

Manson lives with his mom, Kimberly Brown, and despite being a senior dog, he shows no signs of slowing down. His morning routine revolves around fetch, and not even the brutal Canadian winters can keep him inside. If there’s a tennis ball involved, Manson is ready to play — rain, shine, or subzero temperatures.

But this winter, the first snowfall threw Manson a curveball he never saw coming. This Boston Terrier first snow experience is one for the books.

The Morning Everything Changed

Like many a Boston Terrier first snow encounter, Manson’s started with pure confusion. About two weeks ago, he headed outside for his usual morning fetch session. Like clockwork, he sprinted straight to the spot where he’d left his beloved tennis ball the night before.

There was just one problem: the ball was frozen solid to the ground.

Manson tried to pick it up the way he always does. Nothing happened. He tried again. Still stuck. The ball wasn’t going anywhere.

What followed was an adorable — and hilariously determined — effort to free his favorite toy from the icy grip of a Saskatchewan winter.

The Determined Rescue Mission

Kimberly had the good sense to grab her phone before heading outside, and it’s a good thing she did. By the time she reached the yard, Manson was already in full problem-solving mode.

He tried everything a determined Boston Terrier could think of:

Through it all, Manson looked genuinely confused. Why wouldn’t his ball move? It worked perfectly fine yesterday. The concept of frozen ground was clearly not in his vocabulary.

But here’s what makes Manson special: he never gave up. Despite his confusion, he kept trying — because that’s his ball, and no amount of ice was going to change that.

Mom to the Rescue

After watching Manson’s valiant struggle, Kimberly finally stepped in and helped pry the tennis ball free from the frozen ground. The moment the ball popped loose, Manson’s reaction was pure, unfiltered joy.

He immediately started playing with it, as if nothing had happened. Crisis? What crisis?

And when it was time to go back inside, Manson made a decision that shows just how smart this little dog really is. Instead of leaving the ball outside like he normally does, he carried it into the house with him — making absolutely sure it wouldn’t freeze to the ground again.

Lesson learned, apparently.

Why Senior Dogs Still Have So Much to Give

At 10 years old, Manson is technically a senior dog. But you’d never know it from watching him sprint across the yard or wrestle a frozen tennis ball out of the ground. His story is a wonderful reminder that older dogs are still full of energy, personality, and determination.

Boston Terriers in particular are known for their playful, stubborn personalities — traits that Manson has clearly perfected over his decade of life. Manson’s Boston Terrier first snow moment proves that age is just a number — and that a beloved tennis ball is worth fighting for, no matter the weather.

About two weeks ago, however, the snow interrupted the active dog’s playtime. It was this year’s first snow, and Manson didn’t expect it to be taking a toll on his fun time.

As soon as he went outside, Manson went to the same spot where he left his favorite ball, the day prior. His morning routine always starts with several rounds of ball fetching, so he quickly sprinted to get his tennis ball. He tried picking it up, but he couldn’t.

Kimberly grabbed her cell phone before heading out. Once she was in the yard, Manson was already frantic, trying his best to free the frozen ball. He dug around the ball and tried pulling it out. But it didn’t budge.

Manson got confused. He didn’t understand why his favorite ball won’t move. Nevertheless, he didn’t give up. Watch the adorable pup here:

Despite trying so hard, Manson wasn’t able to dislodge the tennis ball. Thankfully, his mom was there. Kimberly stepped in and gave Manson a helping hand.

Manson was incredibly delighted that he quickly started playing with his tennis ball as soon as he got it. And once it was time for them to go back inside, he refused to leave his pal outside. He brought the ball inside the house, making sure it won’t go frozen again.
