A woman’s wedding day is easily among the most unforgettable and meaningful days of her life. While she would want everyone close to h present during the big event, sometimes it isn’t always possible. That was why when Michelle Dodds was planning her wedding, she kept thinking of ways to include her late brother Jeffrey in the event.
Jeffrey, or most fondly called as Jay, died back in 2017, but up to this day, Michelle greatly misses him. In fact, she would often talk to him and share with him her everyday adventures. As she and her fiancé, Mike Singler, planned for their big day, she couldn’t help but think of how she could honor her brother in the ceremony.
She thought of several ways and finally settled on a common interest they both love: pugs. Jay usually traveled a lot for work, often leaving his pug named Knockers alone in their home. So to make sure someone cares for him, Jay gave him to Michelle.
Following his death, Michelle officially adopted the pooch and is now living with her other pups. This gave Bobie Polite, one of the seven bridesmaids, the idea to replace bouquets with rescue pugs. This will not only honor Jay in the most heartwarming way but will also help rescue institutions get the pugs adopted into loving families.
The couple loved the idea and immediately contacted Pug Rescue of Florida to ask for several pups they could promote at their wedding. On the big day, Michelle surprised her entourage with the pugs all dressed up to match the event.
Although the pugs were a bit unconventional for a wedding, the bridesmaids didn’t mind at all. They agreed that the pugs not only symbolize the siblings’ close relationship but also emphasized Michelle’s personality. Leah Grissom, one of the bridesmaids, mentioned that Michelle is a sassy and lively dog lover and that the dogs were an excellent match for the wedding.
