If you are a dog owner, one of your responsibilities is to know which things to avoid to maintain your dog’s safety. Like for example, a dog owner should know that chocolates are poisonous to dogs. But of course, some accidents could happen even if no one wants them to, and that is what the Newhards experienced.

The Newhard family of Bowmanstown in Pennsylvania owns four small dogs. They treat them like family members. One of their dogs, Zoey, a Bichon Frise, got lost in a very unusual way back in January 2018.

It is very normal that we send out dogs to play outside our yard, just like what Felipe Rodriguez, Monica Newhard’s brother, did on what he thought was a typical day. He was not aware that an eagle was flying around.

He was even looking up in the sky saying, “What beautiful wings.” Suddenly, the eagle snatched Zoey and carried it up in the sky, Monica narrated to WFMZ. She didn’t imagine such a thing could happen.

Felipe couldn’t believe what he witnessed. Zoey was snatched from the ground as if she was a fish.

The Newhard Family set no more expectation that Zoey could have survived the accident. All they want is to at least recover Zoey’s body and give her a decent burial. The family posted on Facebook, hoping that someone could help them.

They focused the search on the frozen river. Hawk Mountain Sanctuary biologist Laurie Goodrich told Chicago’s WGN 9 that there were similar recorded incidents of hawk snatching animals.

An unbelievable news arrived at the Newhards family. A woman named Christina found Zoey freezing on the road. Christina took her home and fed her.

Trying to look for the family who owns Zoey, Christina went online and found a picture of Monica, her granddaughter, and the four dogs posted a few hours earlier. Christina easily identified Zoey in the picture.

The reunion of Monica and Zoey was full of emotions that it left Christina tearful. Monica was thankful that there are still good people like Christina in this world. “People are good; there is good in this world,” she said.
