A family dog, based in Westchester County, is now being regarded as a hero. After she saved the whole family from an apparent blasting due to a leaking gas inside the house.
The dog is named Sadie, and the family pit bull was seen roaming around the Tuckahoe yard, barking profusely as if asking for help. The dog’s neighbors immediately contacted the police station and reported about the dog. The police responded from there and arrived at the place around 4 in the afternoon.
When Sadie saw the police patrol coming, she ran as fast as she could, leading the police to her residence through the backyard.
Lieutenant Lawrence Rotta said in an interview that when they arrived at the residence, they noticed that the family home’s sliding door was open and their fence was wrecked. When they were near the parameter of the house, they smelled a gas odor coming out from the basement window.
The police then called a local fire department to respond to the home. Eastchester Fire Department arrived at the place shortly and examined the said gas leak from the house. The fire patrollers also saw claw marks and blood behind the door, probably from Sadie’s immediate reaction that danger is about to happen.
Rotta concluded that it was Sadie who saved the house from a possible gas explosion. During that time, Sadie’s owners, who have a four-year-old daughter, was at work.
The police officer further explained that had Sadie did not act immediately, it would mean more danger. He said the natural gas inside the house could accumulate and if someone turns on the light switch, it will explode.
Serena Costello, Sadie’s owner, could not thank the pooch enough for her quick action. She said it was her beloved dog who saved them from possible harm. And this for her is an act of courage she would remember for the rest of her life.
