There are beautiful stories about how humans transformed the lives of animals, and this is one of those.
A sweet little doggie named Milo is a hound born with a rare condition — he had upside down paws. As young as five weeks old, his previous owners surrendered him to a shelter named the Oliver and Friends Farm Sanctuary. This organization, led by its owner, Jennie Hays, dedicates itself to helping animals with special needs.
Although Milo’s parents had given up on him, the shelter begs to differ. They first took him to a local veterinarian to have him operated, but sadly, the vet declined as he was uncomfortable in performing the surgery. Hearing that, Jennie felt a bit disappointed, but she never lost hope.
She searched for another vet until she met someone in Oklahoma State University Center who has the expertise in such complex surgery and who was willing to do it.
They went for the risky operation, and thankfully, it was successful! The farm staffers were so delighted and were positive that Milo would finally be able to walk.
However, the challenge didn’t stop after the operation. Milo still had to be placed in splints for a few weeks, and after which, he had to undergo a physical therapy that included exercises such as walking and swimming. How exhausting and painful could that be?
Right now, he isn’t fully recovered yet, but he has gone a long way and is almost there!
Who would have thought that such simple efforts of the farm could change the entire life of a pup? It teaches us that we, too, can do something that could mean everything to these animals.
We all can’t wait to see Milo walk and run as smoothly as other dogs. We hope his progress continues until he achieves this!
