Dogs and weddings are now a common sight on the internet. Every once in a while, we happen upon a couple who lovingly included their pet pooches on the big day and received tons of positive feedback. However, it isn’t every day that we see dogs in their very own wedding ceremony!
Meet Fiji and Dotty, two retrievers who had been quite inseparable for some time now. While the two dogs belong to different owners, they formed a solid connection over the years and became best friends. The friendship apparently turned into romance, and their bond was stronger than ever.
That was why when they won a competition for a canine wedding at the Prince of Wales Pub in Somerset, their owners were quick to agree on the setup. Amanda Reed, a staff at Saville Row Hounds which specializes in custom dog clothes, organized the event and dressed up the adorable couple.
She prepared a bow tie for the black retriever Fiji and a wedding coat with flower necklace for the golden retriever Dotty. The marquee outside the pub was also expertly adorned with white flowers and laces to complete the look.
A total of fifty guests were invited to witness the event. A guitar player was even present to make the atmosphere more romantic and special for the canine couple. Pippa Hamilton, a local celebrant, was asked to officiate the event.
She did a ‘handfasting’ ceremony for Dotty and Fiji, a rural tradition where a couple’s hands are tied to symbolize unity. But instead of tying their paws, Pippa tied their leashes instead. She shared that the pups were pretty naughty and disorderly during the event, but it was still as adorable as ever.
The newlywed canines walked down the aisle after the ceremony to the tune of Madness’ It Must Be Love. They then shared a dog-friendly cake during the reception. Look at the lovely couple here.
