Katie Newhouser, a UPS driver in California, receives a furry package after one of her usual customers passed away. Going on the same routes, delivering packages, UPS drivers can tend to build relationships with their customers and even their pet dogs who welcome them each time they pass by.
They even prepare treats for these friendly pups and they are warmly accepted through wagging tails and sweet kisses. Katie particularly grew close to a customer named Tina, and her pet dog, a cute and sweet pit bull named Leo. Through the years, she saw how close Leo was to his mom.
Tina told Katie that they adopted Leo when her son found him when he was just a puppy. He was still a baby back then so they had to bottle-feed the pup. According to Katie, Leo would always start barking whenever he sees the UPS truck pull into their condo complex. He would also run into the truck to greet her. Surely, Leo was one of Katie’s favorite dogs in her everyday encounters as a UPS driver.
In July 2017, Katie was saddened by the news that Tina had passed away, which she found out through Facebook. The news broke her heart but she also worried about Leo, knowing that the dog had an incredible relationship with his owner. Katie contacted Cannon, Tina’s son, to ask about Leo. He said that he was on active duty in the Marines and he could not take Leo in.
Since no one will be available to look after the pooch, Katie offered to adopt Leo. The first few days in Leo’s new home was a bit difficult for the pup. Katie said that she would hear Leo whine and cry at night before he sleeps, probably because he misses Tina. It took him a short while to adjust, especially that Katie already had three other dogs in the house. But eventually, Leo was able to adjust to his new life and is ready to move on with his family.
