Bruce, Danny and Estelle Harris’ bull mastiff was rushed to the hospital back in December. His tongue was blue, and his gums were white. The vet said that Bruce had pleural effusion, a medical condition wherein the lungs and heart are surrounded with fluid.

The vets immediately drained the fluid, then sent Bruce for more scans. Sadly, they found out that their fur baby had cancer. Bruce had to undergo surgery to remove the lump. Estelle was told that they had to say goodbye in case Bruce wouldn’t make it through the 7-hour operation.

Fortunately, Bruce survived. Some of his ribs were removed because of the grapefruit-sized cancer mass. A week and a half later, the result showed that poor Bruce had hemangiosarcoma, which is a rapidly growing and highly invasive type of cancer. Estelle fell to the floor upon hearing the news. Even if Bruce undergoes chemo, the vet said that he would only have six months to live.

Estelle loves Bruce so much. She’s had him since Bruce was only eight weeks old. Estelle tried everything to help prolong Bruce’s life. She even researched on cancer-fighting foods. However, Estelle had to face the reality that Bruce is dying, and there’s nothing they can do about it.

Estelle and Danny’s wedding was originally set on May 4. However, they hastily rearranged it and moved their wedding date to February. The couple had to sacrifice their original deposit as well as their caterers and several guests who couldn’t make it to the new date.

Because Estelle treats Bruce like her own child, she said that everything was worth it. Their family understood their decision because all of them are dog lovers. They know how much Bruce means to them. Their family was so supportive that Estelle’s mother even made a waistcoat for Bruce that matches Danny’s.

Currently, Bruce is a couple of months into his battle against cancer. Keyleigh H. Roome, Estelle’s sister-in-law, created a GoFundMe page to raise money for Bruce’s oils, vitamins, and tablets, hoping to prolong Bruce’s life.
